That pretty much covers the different styles used in the National Deries as well in the UK. In terms of defence against this most sides will adopt a 6 up and sweeper system. This works as two pods of three players in the front line. The winger uses the touchline as an extra defender and forces the ball carrier out. The second man in then pushes across to make the hit, whilst the winger competes for the ball and the third man in closes the door on the push pass. Obviously this has to be performed quickly and with good communication between the players involved, otherwise massive holes appear in the middle of the park. If the hit isn't on then the line is simply held and you allow the oppositon to move the ball back the other side of the park.

Ultimately in 7s it doesn't really matter if you concede a bit of ground so long as your line remains intact. If your line is broken then the sweeper has sole responsibility for the ball carrier and the front line attackers must scramble into the holes to cut of the passing options.
